Created in 1982 to satisfy the whims of a Kuwaiti prince, the Failaka 105 was the first megayacht over 30 metres to be made in fibreglass. This was revolutionary in terms of production, as the mould based construction system made it possible to create a number of units that were all the same on the outside. But it also brought a revolution in terms of performance: the lightness of the hull compared with steel, and its enormous tensile strength meant that this megayacht was capable of navigating with ease at 32 knots.
